Covering Derry/Londonderry and nearby

If your building is in Derry/Londonderry, or anywhere in the BT47 and BT48 postcode districts, we can arrange automatic door repairs. Visits are booked with you in advance, timed around opening hours where that matters, and carried out by engineers who work under our management.

Weather matters for entrances that face open car parks, which is common on retail and business parks around Derry/Londonderry and elsewhere in County Londonderry. Exposed doors can be pushed by wind and let heat escape, so draught lobbies, good seals and correctly set sensors are worth considering.

Nearby towns we also list for automatic door repairs (straight-line distance): Strabane (13.6 miles), Limavady (14.7 miles), Coleraine (27.1 miles), Omagh (27.5 miles).

What to think about for automatic door repairs in Derry/Londonderry

  • Wet and windy weather causes many false openings. Sensors over exposed entrances can react to rain and blowing leaves, and a small change to the detection zone often cures it.
  • Glass damage needs prompt action to keep people safe. Switch the door off, keep people back from the broken leaf and tape or board the glass if that can be done safely.
  • Rule out the simple things. Check whether the door's isolator or fused spur has been switched off, and whether other equipment on the same circuit has also stopped working.
  • Doors knocked by trolleys, pushchairs or deliveries often go out of line. Repeated impacts damage rollers and floor guides, so it helps to know roughly when the fault first appeared.
  • A door with battery backup may show a fault, or fail to open in a power cut, when its battery is worn out. Batteries are a routine replacement part rather than a major repair.

Standards and rules in Northern Ireland

BS EN 16005 is the current standard for the safety in use of powered pedestrian doors, and BS 7036-0:2014 is the British code of practice for risk assessment and risk reduction used alongside it. Standards are not law in themselves, but they are the recognised benchmark for showing an automatic door is safe to use, and we set up, test and document doors with reference to them. Standards are not retrospective, so an older door does not become unlawful when a standard is updated; a site-specific risk assessment shows whether any upgrades are sensible.

No law sets a fixed service interval. We recommend that a trained engineer checks the safety functions at least once a year, with service intervals set by the manufacturer’s instructions and how heavily the door is used, and that someone on site carries out simple regular checks and keeps a record.

How it works

  1. Tell us what is happening. Describe the fault, or the service or inspection that is due, and send photos of the door and any label on the operator. Include the address in Derry/Londonderry and how much the site depends on the door.
  2. Visit price agreed in writing. We confirm the price of the visit in writing before an engineer attends. If the door can be priced from photos and its make and model, we say so at this stage.
  3. Engineer visit. A specialist engineer working under our management diagnoses the fault or carries out the service, then tests the operation of the door and its safety sensors before leaving the site.
  4. Findings and follow-up. You receive a written record of what was found and done. Any parts or further work needed are quoted in writing before they go ahead, and nothing is added without your agreement.

For a written repair price in Derry/Londonderry, tell us the make of the door, what it is doing and whether it is stuck open, stuck shut or unsafe.

Automatic door repairs in Derry/Londonderry: questions

Do you repair automatic doors in Derry/Londonderry?

Yes. We take the booking, agree the price and manage the job, and the visit in Derry/Londonderry is made by a specialist automatic door engineer working under our management. The engineers we send work on sliding, swing, folding and revolving doors from most makers, including doors we did not install. The visit price is confirmed with you in writing before the engineer is booked.

What is the guide price for automatic door repairs in Derry/Londonderry?

Our guide starts from £95 excluding VAT (visit including the first hour), the same guide price we use across the UK. For homes that is from £114 including VAT. We agree the visit price in writing before an engineer attends in Derry/Londonderry, and quote any parts or further work before doing them. The price guide lists typical repair and service costs.

Can you repair revolving doors in Derry/Londonderry?

Yes. The engineers we send work on automatic and manual revolving doors as well as sliding and swing doors. Revolving doors have extra safety devices, such as stop buttons and edge sensors, which are all tested after a repair. Parts for some revolving doors take longer to source, so photos of the drive and control panel help us prepare.

Do engineers carry spare parts for doors in Derry/Londonderry?

Engineers carry common parts such as sensors, belts and some rollers. Controllers, motors and parts for less common doors are ordered once the fault is confirmed, and delivery is typically 1 to 3 weeks. Knowing the make and model in advance improves the chance of a repair during the first visit.

How soon can an engineer get to Derry/Londonderry?

We do not promise response times. When you book, we give you the earliest date we can offer and confirm it once the price is agreed. If the door is unsafe in the meantime, it is usually best to switch it off or set it to a safe mode, put up a sign and keep people clear of it.

Can visits in Derry/Londonderry be arranged outside working hours?

Yes, where the site needs it. Early-morning, evening and weekend visits can be arranged for shops, surgeries and offices that cannot lose their entrance during the day. Any difference in price for out-of-hours attendance is agreed in writing before the visit is booked, alongside the standard visit price.

What do the building regulations in Northern Ireland say about powered doors?

The Building Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2012 require a powered door to have a means to prevent it trapping anyone and a means to open it if the power fails. Guidance on access is in Technical Booklet R, and new entrances need building control approval.
