Covering Llandudno and nearby

Parking on a busy high street can be tight. When work is booked in Llandudno, the engineer's arrival is planned around loading restrictions, any market days and opening hours, so the visit causes as little disruption as possible.

Nearby towns we also list for automatic door repairs (straight-line distance): Colwyn Bay (4.8 miles), Abergele (10.7 miles), Rhyl (14.0 miles), Bangor (14.0 miles), Prestatyn (17.5 miles), Caernarfon (22.1 miles).

What to think about for automatic door repairs in Llandudno

  • A door with battery backup may show a fault, or fail to open in a power cut, when its battery is worn out. Batteries are a routine replacement part rather than a major repair.
  • Older shopfronts in Llandudno may have automatic doors with discontinued drive units. Ask whether parts are still available before agreeing to a large repair, as a new operator may be better value.
  • Shopping parades and business parks in Llandudno can have restricted parking or loading. Tell us where an engineer can park and unload tools when you book the visit.
  • Grit and stones in the floor guide are a frequent cause of doors sticking or stopping short. Sweeping the threshold and track area regularly prevents many breakdowns.
  • Leisure centres, schools and public buildings in Llandudno may need a contractor induction or permit before work starts. Send any site rules with your booking so the visit can go ahead first time.

Standards and rules in Wales

BS EN 16005 is the current standard for the safety in use of powered pedestrian doors, and BS 7036-0:2014 is the British code of practice for risk assessment and risk reduction used alongside it. Standards are not law in themselves, but they are the recognised benchmark for showing an automatic door is safe to use, and we set up, test and document doors with reference to them. Standards are not retrospective, so an older door does not become unlawful when a standard is updated; a site-specific risk assessment shows whether any upgrades are sensible.

Workplace law (the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992) expects powered doors to have suitable and effective features to stop them trapping anyone and, where needed for safety, to open by hand unless they open automatically if the power fails. Doors at work must also be kept in efficient working order under a suitable system of maintenance. HSE guidance on those regulations says the frequency of maintenance depends on the equipment and the manufacturer’s information.

How it works

  1. Share the details. Send the address in Llandudno, the door type and make if you know it, and a description or video of the problem. For servicing, tell us how many doors there are and how busy each one is.
  2. Price confirmed in writing. We agree the visit price in writing before an engineer attends. Some straightforward repairs can be priced in full from photos and the make and model of the door.
  3. Diagnosis and repair. A specialist engineer attends on the agreed date, finds the cause, repairs or services the door, and tests its operation, sensors and safety functions with reference to BS EN 16005.
  4. Written record. Each visit ends with a written record for your files. Anything still outstanding, such as parts on order or recommended upgrades, is quoted before any further work is done.

Automatic door repairs in Llandudno: questions

Is it safe to keep using a faulty automatic door in Llandudno?

It depends on the fault. A slow or noisy door may be safe to use until the visit, but a door that strikes people, closes unexpectedly or has damaged glass should be switched off and kept clear. If you are unsure, switch it off and use another entrance until an engineer has checked it.

Is there a guide price for automatic door repairs in Llandudno?

Our guide starts from £95 excluding VAT (visit including the first hour), the same guide price we use across the UK. For homes that is from £114 including VAT. We agree the visit price in writing before an engineer attends in Llandudno, and quote any parts or further work before doing them. The price guide lists typical repair and service costs.

Do engineers carry spare parts for doors in Llandudno?

Engineers carry common parts such as sensors, belts and some rollers. Controllers, motors and parts for less common doors are ordered once the fault is confirmed, and delivery is typically 1 to 3 weeks. Knowing the make and model in advance improves the chance of a repair during the first visit.

What if my door in Llandudno cannot be repaired?

If a drive unit is obsolete, or a repair would cost close to a new operator, the engineer explains why. A new drive unit can usually be fitted to the existing frame and leaves, which costs far less than a whole new door. You receive a written quote for that, and whether to go ahead is entirely your choice.

Can visits in Llandudno be arranged outside working hours?

Yes, where the site needs it. Early-morning, evening and weekend visits can be arranged for shops, surgeries and offices that cannot lose their entrance during the day. Any difference in price for out-of-hours attendance is agreed in writing before the visit is booked, alongside the standard visit price.

What if a door in Llandudno is found to be unsafe?

The engineer explains the problem and, where needed, leaves the door in a safe state, for example switched off or set so it cannot trap or strike anyone. You receive a written note of the issue. The repair or upgrade that would put it right is quoted before any further work is carried out.

Can a home in Llandudno get help paying for a door opener?

Possibly. In Wales a Disabled Facilities Grant of up to £36,000 can fund adaptations that make it easier to get in and out of a home. Grants are means-tested and must be approved by the council before work starts.
