Coverage across Powys

From large town centres to quiet villages, entrances across Powys vary a great deal, and the right approach to accessible door operators varies with them. A surgery door used by patients with walking frames needs different settings from a supermarket entrance, so the engineer looks at the actual door first. The towns we list in this area currently number 3.

What to think about for accessible door operators in Powys

  • Glazed doors in shop fronts and offices in Powys need visible push pads and clear markings on the glass, so people with sight loss can find the pad and see where the door is.
  • Power is usually taken from a fused spur near the head of the door. If there is no supply close by, allow for an electrician to run one, ideally hidden in trunking or the wall.
  • Accessible toilets need a pad inside and out, a lock button that disables the outside pad while the room is in use, and a way for staff to open the door in an emergency.
  • Community halls and churches in Powys may only be busy at certain times. A timer or key switch can keep the operator on while the building is open and leave the door manual the rest of the time.
  • Offices and shared buildings in Powys often have doors used by both staff and visitors. Power assist for everyday use, with a push pad for those who need full opening, keeps the door easy for everyone.

Standards and rules in Wales

Under the Equality Act 2010, service providers and employers in Wales must make reasonable adjustments for disabled people, which can include altering a physical feature such as a heavy entrance door. Fitting an automatic door helps, but does not on its own guarantee those duties are met.

Wales has its own building regulations guidance. Approved Document M (Wales) uses a lower opening-force limit than England, 20 N at the leading edge, before a powered door is called for, and expects external doors used by the public in new buildings to give at least 1000 mm of effective clear width.

Whoever motorises a manual door, or builds an automatic door from separate parts, may take on the manufacturer’s legal duties for the finished door: a risk assessment, a technical file kept available for the authorities, a Declaration of Conformity, the conformity marking and instructions. You receive the Declaration of Conformity and the instructions at handover. In Great Britain a new or converted powered door must meet the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 before it is first used, and can carry the UKCA or the CE marking.

How it works

  1. Tell us about the entrance. Send the address, a few photos and a rough size of the opening, and say how the door is used. That is enough for us to suggest options for accessible door operators and book a survey in Powys.
  2. Free site survey. A specialist engineer working under our management measures the opening, checks the frame, floor, head height and power, and talks through how people use the entrance. There is no charge and no obligation.
  3. Fixed written quote. You receive a fixed, itemised written quote with the specification, lead time, payment stages and warranty terms. The price does not change unless the scope does, and any change is agreed in writing first.
  4. Installation and handover. The door is fitted on the agreed dates, then set up, tested and documented with reference to BS EN 16005. You are shown the controls and the simple checks to make, and receive the handover paperwork.

Book a free survey for the door that is causing problems in Powys, and we will send a fixed, itemised quote for an accessible operator and push pads.

Accessible door operators in Powys: questions

Do you fit operators to accessible toilets in Powys?

Yes. An accessible toilet usually needs a low-energy operator, push pads inside and out, a lock button that stops the door opening from outside while in use, and an emergency release for staff. We price the full kit, test it with your staff and leave the settings in writing.

What do you charge for accessible door operators in Powys?

Our guide is £1,795 to £2,995 excluding VAT (per single door), the same guide prices we use across the UK. The free site survey in Powys confirms the price as a fixed, itemised written quote, and the guide price tool gives you a range before anyone visits.

Who will fit the operator at our building in Powys?

The engineer will be a specialist working under our management. We are the contracting party, so the quote, the warranty terms and any follow-up all come through us. Before handover, the door is set up, tested and documented with reference to BS EN 16005.

Can you fit operators to several doors across our sites in Powys?

Yes. We can survey several doors or buildings in one visit where they are close together and quote each door separately, so you can phase the work if budgets need it. Controls and push pads can be kept the same across sites for consistency.

What power supply is needed for accessible door operators in Powys?

Most powered doors need a fused spur close to the operator, and some activation and access control devices also need a low-voltage link. The survey checks what is already there. If a new supply is required, the quote says whether we arrange it or your own electrician does, so nothing is left unclear on the day.

Can installation in Powys happen outside opening hours?

Yes. Many shops, surgeries and offices prefer work early in the morning, in the evening or at weekends, when the entrance is quietest. Tell us your constraints when you enquire and they are built into the plan. Any extra cost for out-of-hours work is shown in the written quote rather than added afterwards.

Are the rules for automatic doors different in Wales?

Some are. Wales has its own building regulations guidance: Approved Document M (Wales) calls for a powered door where opening a self-closing entrance door would need more than 20 N, lower than the figure used in England. Fire law (the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005) and the Equality Act 2010 apply as in England.
